Originally designed by Old Tom Morris in 1871 the course was further designed and enhanced by James Braid in 1926.
 

A heathland course, however it now has mature woods lining the fairways giving it more of a parkland feel.

As is synonymous with Braid's designs, the course has a links course style layout, even though it is an inland course. Undulating fairways lead to quality greens.
 
At just under 6000 yards the course provides a fantastic day of golf.
