| Sandwiched
between the town and dunes of the seaside lies the fifth oldest
golf course in the world, the Montrose medal. The first recorded
proof of the links was in 1562 when |
|
|
one
of the Montose boys, James Melville, wrote about the game
being played, this also suggests that the game at this
time was well developed in Montrose.
At one point during the development of the game, Montrose
had 25 holes! Fortunately the course has moved with the
times and you need only play 18 now.
The Montrose course has staged many golfing events |

|
|
|
over the years, the Scottish Professional Championship,
the Scottish Amateur Championship, the British Boys Championship
and most recently the course was a |
final qualifying course for the Open Championship
at Carnoustie in 1999.
The course itself is a classic example of a true
Scottish links, with undulating fairways and fast
greens this is a great test for golfers of all abilities. |
